    • I just recently purchased a used car from Brown's. I thought I wouldn't be able to get financed to purchase a vehicle because my vehicle had broken down. I went in on a Saturday morning and bought my vehicle with no problems. Everyone was very nice and I am very happy with my purchase and my experience. Thank you Brown's!

    Understanding Virginia's Vehicle Inspection Laws

    Last updated 11 months ago

All vehicles registered in the state of Virginia must pass an annual safety inspection. A wide number of items are checked during this inspection. Read the following article to learn more about Virginia’s Vehicle Safety Inspection Program, and how our local Nissan dealership can prepare your car for this inspection.

Cars That Are Required to Undergo a Safety Inspection

For the most part, cars registered in Virginia are required to get a safety inspection every twelve months. If your car was recently registered in the state of Virginia, it must receive an inspection immediately; in fact, it is recommended that you get the safety inspection before registering your car. The only exceptions to this are cars that are brand new, and cars that are more than 25 years old and registered as antique vehicles.

    Items That Are Inspected

Virtually every part of your car that is related to driver and passenger safety is inspected. This includes the brakes and parking brake, headlights and signal lights, wheels and tires, suspension and steering, horn, mirrors, windshield, exhaust system, air bags, seat belts, driver seat, fuel system, and doors.

What Happens If You Don’t Pass the Inspection

All cars that have passed a safety inspection are given a sticker for the windshield. Cars that fail the inspection are given a temporary sticker that is valid for fifteen days. This gives the owner of the car enough time to procure the necessary repairs and pass the inspection. Police can stop and cite drivers of cars without a sticker or with an out-of-date sticker.

To prepare your car for Virginia’s safety inspection, come to Brown’s Dulles Nissan today. Call us at (703) 948-1100 for more information about our preliminary inspection and maintenance services. We can help your car pass the safety inspection!
